Equipment

  • 1 Medium mixing bowl
  • 1 small bowl
  • 1 spoon for mixing
  • Measuring Spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp dried onion flakes
  • 1 tbsp dried chives
  • 1 tbsp granulated garlic
  • 1 tsp dried dill
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 1 tsp celery seed
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups sour cream can increase up to 3 cups for milder flavor

Instructions

  • Prepare the Herb Blend: Begin by gathering all the dry ingredients dried onion flakes, dried chives, granulated garlic, dried dill, dried parsley, celery seed, and salt.
Place them into a small bowl and gently stir with a spoon until fully combined.
This creates a concentrated herb mixture that ensures every spoonful of dip will have even flavor.
For a garnish later, you can carefully scoop out about ¼ teaspoon of this mixture and set it aside.
  • Measure the Sour Cream: Take a medium-sized mixing bowl and pour in 2 cups of sour cream.
The amount of sour cream is flexible depending on your taste preference—using 3 cups will result in a milder, creamier dip, while sticking to 2 cups keeps the flavors bold and garlicky.
Use a spatula or spoon to ensure all the sour cream is gathered in one place, ready for blending.
  • Combine Herbs and Sour Cream: Sprinkle the prepared herb mixture evenly over the sour cream.
Using a whisk or a sturdy spoon, stir the ingredients together thoroughly.
Make sure to scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl to fully incorporate all the dried herbs.
You want the dip to have a uniform creamy texture with herbs distributed evenly, so every bite is flavorful.
  • Chill for Maximum Flavor: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a tight-fitting lid.
Refrigerate the dip for a minimum of 2 hours.
This resting period allows the dried herbs to rehydrate slightly and infuse the sour cream, enhancing the aroma and depth of flavor.
For an even richer taste, prepare the dip a day ahead and refrigerate overnight.
  • Prepare to Serve: Before serving, remove the dip from the refrigerator.
Give it a gentle stir to recombine any ingredients that may have settled.
Place the dip in a serving bowl and, if desired, sprinkle the reserved ¼ teaspoon of herb blend on top as an attractive garnish.
This small touch adds visual appeal and a burst of fresh herb flavor.
  • Pair and Enjoy: Serve the dip alongside fresh-cut vegetables, crispy chips, or assorted crackers.
It also pairs beautifully with seafood, such as smoked salmon or shrimp cocktails, offering a versatile option for appetizers or snacks.
Encourage guests to scoop generously, and enjoy the creamy, herb-infused goodness.
Any leftovers should be covered and stored in the fridge, best consumed within 5 days for optimal flavor.

Notes

  • The dip has a bold garlic flavor due to the granulated garlic. If your family prefers a milder taste, reduce the garlic to 1–2 teaspoons or increase the sour cream to 3 cups.
  • Using dried herbs makes this dip quick to prepare and easy to keep on hand. However, for a fresher, more vibrant flavor, consider substituting 1 teaspoon of each dried herb with an equal amount of finely chopped fresh herbs.
  • This recipe is highly versatile. You can adjust the consistency by adding more sour cream for a creamier dip or serving it slightly thicker for dipping vegetables.
  • For a subtle tang, try adding a squeeze of fresh lemon juice just before serving. It brightens the flavor and balances the richness of the sour cream.
  • The dip can be made in advance and improves in flavor after a few hours in the fridge, making it perfect for meal prep or entertaining.
